Brendan Borek loved life, and life it seemed, loved Brendan. An avid surfer, gifted artist, and an agile soccer player, his teenage years mirrored life at its fullest.
Diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma (cancer of the bone) at 16, he vied against death with courage and dignity until the disease claimed him in December 1991.
Because Brendan touched the
hearts of many, the Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund, Inc. (Brendan’s Fund) was established in 1992 by his family and friends. Visit the About Us section to find out more.
What’s New
Artists and Friends Art Show
Registration has begun for this year’s Artist and Friends Art Show. The Art Show will take place on August 12th at the Avalon Yacht Club from 6-10pm. The registration deadline is July 25th. For more information call 609-967-0100.
18TH Annual Surf Memorial
Registration will begin for the 18th Annual Surf Contest on July 4th. This year’s contest will be held on August 16th. Register early, space is limited. For more information call 609-967-0100.
Art of Surfing Festival
Brendan’s Fund will be participating in the Art of Surfing Festival at the Ocean City Music Pier on August 2, 2008. The event will feature original art from surfing’s biggest names. Drop by our display table in the Music Pier, we will be selling some of our merchandise and promoting our August events. Hyperflex Wetsuits Reggae Summer Splash
Hyperflex Wetsuits will be holding a Beach Party at the Golden Inn, in Avalon on July 20th from 2-7pm. The event will showcase merchandise by surf manufacturers and local businesses. Musical entertainment by Raggamuffins. All raffle prize money will be donated to Brendan’s Fund. Come out and enjoy a fun day at the beach. Admission is free.
